It all started with the “Mahalo Food Truck” in the springtime of 2017. If you are strolling around the city, you may have caught a glimpse of this “exotic” van, which was introduced in many events during previous months. In September, however, this van found his way home at Veroia Street 5 and was named Mahalo Civilized Food. Maybe you already know the other “family member”, Gorilla, which is right next door.
To begin with, the term “Mahalo” in the Hawaiian language has the meaning of “thank you”, showing appreciation and gratitude. It is an ethnic space where the minimalistic decoration dominates, with influences from the Caribbean and Hawaii. Both environment and dishes, give a sophisticated and casual style. You can visit Mahalo anytime you like, either early in the morning for a well-made breakfast, or for taking a brunch/lunch break, or in the evening for a quiet dinner. Choices made in terms of dishes are inspired by various places of the world, such as the Mediterranean, Italy, Mexico, Hawaii, and America.
The motto of the group is “Civilized food for a civilized city”, on point. Mahalo gives you the opportunity to taste street food, while having in mind the atmosphere of the food truck. Cuban Sandwich, Hawaiian Burger, Duck Tacos and many more to choose from. Not your average street food, for sure. But also the lunch/dinner options are impressive. From Zucchini Spaghetti to Duck Breast Fillet, Mahalo’s dishes satisfy all tastes.
What makes Mahalo remarkable is the fact that they use mostly seasonal ingredients, so the standard menu changes every 4 or 5 months. Along with the standard menu, however, there is also the weekly one, where the Mahalo team will offer you an appetizer, a main dish and a dessert quite different from what you have been used to so far! Not only that but also the main event that Mahalo has established so far is the Sunday brunch along with “Gorilla” next door.
Every Sunday, therefore, there is an honored country and we taste a representative breakfast. Great, huh? So far we have tasted wonderful breakfast meals from France, America, Italy, Spain and of course Greece! What about pancakes with bougatsa cream on top with an Ottos tonic or a Mediterranean Me cocktail on the side? If you’re so much into this as I am, you only have to come this Sunday, November 5th from 10 am to enjoy a gourmet breakfast made in Greece.

Όλα ξεκίνησαν από το Mahalo Food Τruck την άνοιξη του 2017. Αν κυκλοφορείς στην πόλη αρκετά, όλο και κάπου θα έχεις πετύχει αυτό το “εξωτικό” βανάκι, που φιλοξενήθηκε σε πολλά event τη σεζόν που μας πέρασε. Τον Σεπτέμβριο, όμως, το βανάκι αυτό βρήκε το σπίτι του στην οδό Βεροίας 5 και ονομάστηκε Mahalo Civilized Food. Ίσως ήδη βέβαια να γνωρίζεις και το “αδερφάκι” του, τον Γορίλα Bar, που βρίσκεται ακριβώς δίπλα.
Αρχικά, για τις συστάσεις, ο όρος “Mahalo” στα Χαβανέζικα έχει την έννοια του “ευχαριστώ”, της εκτίμησης και της ευγνωμοσύνης. Πρόκειται για έναν έθνικ χώρο, όπου επικρατεί η μίνιμαλ διακόσμηση, με επιρροές από Καραϊβική και Χαβάη. Τόσο ο χώρος, όσο και τα πιάτα προσδίδουν ένα στυλ εκλεπτυσμένο και συνάμα casual. Μπορείς να επισκεφτείς το Mahalo όλες τις ώρες της ημέρας, είτε νωρίς το πρωί για ένα χορταστικό breakfast, είτε κάνοντας διάλειμμα το μεσημεράκι για brunch ή lunch, αλλά και το βραδάκι για ένα ήρεμο dinner. Οι επιλογές που έχουν γίνει όσον αφορά τα πιάτα, είναι εμπνευσμένες από διάφορα μέρη του κόσμου, όπως Μεσόγειο, Ιταλία, Μεξικό, Χαβάη και Αμερική.
Το motto της ομάδας είναι “Civilized food for a civilized city“, κι όχι αδίκως. Το Mahalo σου δίνει τη δυνατότητα να γευτείς και street food, έχοντας πάντα στο μυαλό την ατμόσφαιρα που προσφέρει το food truck. Cuban Sandwich, Hawaiian Burger, Duck Tacos και άλλα πολλά για να διαλέξεις. Not your average street food, και το λέω με σιγουριά. Αλλά και οι επιλογές στο lunch/dinner είναι εντυπωσιακές. Από Zucchini Spaghetti μέχρι Duck Breast Fillet, ικανοποιούν όλα τα γούστα και τις προτιμήσεις.

Η ιδιαίτερη νοοτροπία του Mahalo βασίζεται στο γεγονός ότι χρησιμοποιούνται σχεδόν πάντα υλικά της εκάστοτε εποχής, γι’αυτό και το σταθερό μενού αλλάζει ανά 4 ή 5 μήνες. Ταυτόχρονα με το σταθερό μενού, ωστόσο, υπάρχει και το εβδομαδιαίο, όπου η ομάδα του Mahalo θα σου προτείνει ένα ορεκτικό, ένα κυρίως πιάτο κι ένα επιδόρπιο εντελώς διαφορετικά απ’ ότι έχεις συνηθίσει μέχρι τώρα! Και σαν να μην έφτανε αυτό, το βασικό event που έχει κάνει το Mahalo να ξεχωρίσει μέχρι στιγμής, είναι το Κυριακάτικο brunch σε συνεργασία με το γειτονικό “Γορίλα”.
Κάθε Κυριακή, λοιπόν, υπάρχει μια τιμώμενη χώρα και δοκιμάζουμε ένα αντιπροσωπευτικό πρωινό της. Τέλειο; Μέχρι στιγμής έχουμε δοκιμάσει υπέροχα πρωινά γεύματα εμπνευσμένα από Γαλλία, Αμερική, Ιταλία, Ισπανία και φυσικά Ελλάδα! Τι θα έλεγες για pancakes με κρέμα μπουγάτσα και ένα κοκτέιλ Ottos tonic ή Mediterranean Me από δίπλα; Αν ψήνεσαι κι εσύ όπως κι εγώ, δεν έχεις παρά να έρθεις αυτήν την Κυριακή, 5 Νοεμβρίου από τις 10 και μετά για να απολαύσεις ένα γκουρμέ πρωινό με άκρως ελληνικές προδιαγραφές.
ΥΓ1. Όλα τα πιάτα σερβίρονται και στο Μahalo και στον Γορίλα, εκτός του lunch/dinner που σερβίρεται μόνο στο Mahalo.
YΓ2. Η κουζίνα είναι ανοιχτή από τις 9.00 το πρωί μέχρι τις 24.00.
